Luke 2:7 (NIV).... and [Mary] she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
A young Christian Mother once wrote “Since becoming a mother, I read the Christmas story in Luke with a new understanding of God's great gift. I am impressed not only with the enormity of this gift but with the beautiful way it was given. Jesus, the Saviour of us all, is born in a dirty stable to a young girl. Not a beautiful beginning, not much fanfare.”
This birth is often referred to as the “Immaculate Conception” or as a church notice put it once the “immaculate contraption.”
I’ve been thinking that after Jesus' birth, Mary, who was little more than a child herself, is entrusted along with Joseph with caring for Jesus. You can only begin to imagine how she felt and if it was anyone of us, picture for a moment her nervousness! New parents always face doubts and fears, but these two were the parents of the Saviour of the world. God in the flesh! What an awesome responsibility!
However, every child born is an enormous responsibility as well as a gift from God. Jesus' birth right from His conception to His birth in a simple stable reminds me that every child born into this world has amazing potential; greatness is born among us in the unlikeliest of places.
As I celebrate the birth of the Saviour child, I am reminded to honour him in the way I honour others, especially children. I am reminded that our Saviour’s birth and new life is not possible if it was not for God.
Prayer
Lord, please help us to celebrate your child and care for all children as gifts from you. Amen.
Thought
Every child is God's child first and our child second.

New parents responsibility
