James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. NIV

PRAYER is something I have struggled with time and time again. It is not difficult for me to find words to say. HoweverI wonder, how can my words be heard when so many cries are louder and so many voices stronger than mine? Surely others are praying for more important things! Considering prayer brings questions from my rational mind: How does prayer work? How can it, really?

When I was in pastoring, I led a prayer group each week for our church. Because I was the leader, I found myself praying in advance for the prayer group itself. Praying for prayer! As strange as this may sound, this was the whole point: to involve God in all aspects of my life and to pray continually for family, friends, work associates, in fact all people and events that matter to me.

I’ve been thinking that when I am praying daily, I begin to feel in touch with God. I see myself aligning my plans with God’s ways and plans, and I am able to focus more on seeking God’s presence. Questions and doubts about prayer will always resurface. But who better to help me work through them than the One with the answers?

Prayer

Faithful God, keep us in touch with you and your will for our lives. Help us to trust you and the power of your gift of prayer. Amen.
