2 Corinthians 9:7. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. NIV

I read this today in my devotions and it comes from a man in Brazil.

Just before a church service about missions, my five-year-old son, Yuri, came to me extremely happy. He handed me a small envelope that he had received at Sunday school and said, "Papa, can you give me some money so I can pay Jesus during the service?"

I smiled at his request. I sat down with him and talked about the offering for missions, explaining that we are not paying Jesus. Afterwards, I thought about how God talks to us through small, everyday events.

I’ve been thinking that Salvation has no price; the price has already been paid by the sacrifice of Jesus. For Jesus, a life, yours and mine,  is more valuable than all the treasures of earth. He affirms, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy" (Matthew 6:19, NIV).

We have been given a warning to gather treasures in heaven but at the same time to use earthly treasures to bring the kingdom of God into completion.  In this case, financial giving to missions will reach people in places we cannot go. Our contributions will become tickets, fuel, food, clothes, and lodging so that missionaries may bring the priceless message of salvation to all people.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, teach us how to give with joy so that your word may be brought to people who are thirsty for salvation. Amen.

Thought

Our giving to missions makes it possible to share the Gospel.
