You are here: Director's Welcome

Welcome from CMANZ Director....

Welcome to the South Pacific and the beautiful nation of New Zealand. We are often referred to as the country “down under” in reference to our Global position deep in the Pacific Ocean and also as "the land of the long white cloud" referring to the vision of our Maori ancestors as they approached NZ for the first time. While some people mistake us as a part of Australia or a country in Europe. we are in fact a fully self governing country who is an active member of the British Commonwealth, and extremely proud to be known as "Kiwis"

Although not large among Christian Denominations in New Zealand, we are immensely proud of our roots and attachment to the Christian and Missionary Alliance worldwide.  As you can see in our history section, missionaries from the C&MA USA arrived in NZ in 1971 and since then the work has ebbed and flowed for a variety of reasons.

nz_map.gif The work today is centered around New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland*, were you'll find the seven churches that are currently operating.  The oldest of these is Blockhouse Bay Community Church and the youngest is Central Christian and Missionary Alliance.

Here's a brief outline of the seven churches:

Blockhouse Bay Community Church:  Originally known as "First Alliance Church" BBCC is situated just outside of the Central City Area of Auckland. Pastored by Andrew Marshall and his wife Fiona, BBCC is a multicultural church blessed with a large number of Indian families. BBCC also operates a Christian Kindergarten as part of it's ministry to the community.

Central Christian and Missionary Alliance: This work is the latest church plant and is situated in the Central City area.  Daniel and Christabel Lam head this work among a mix of Mandarin and Cantonese people.

Chinese Alliance Christian Church: The largest of the C&MA churches in New Zealand it is situated in the Eastern Suburbs of Auckland in the area of Pakuranga.  Pastored by Eddy Chan along with his wife Loretta the church works mainly among the many Cantonese folk in the area.

International Christian Centre: Formally the Alliance Christian Centre it is situated in the east of the eastern Suburbs of Auckland at Howick. Pastored by Kevin Nichol, this work embraces many different ethnic groups, of which Filipino would make up the greatest number.

Korean Alliance Church of Auckland: This work is situated along with Blockhouse Bay Community Church just outside of the central city area of Auckland. Planted by Joshua and Esther Lee this church is growing slowly among the increasing numbers of Koreans moving to Auckland.

West Harbour Alliance Church: One of the older C&MA Churches in Auckland it is situated in the North Western Suburbs.  Pastored by Matt Mordaunt, this is largely a Kiwi church in a young and fast growing area.

West Harbour Chinese Alliance Christian Church: Meets in the same building as the West Harbour Alliance Church and is reaching Chinese folk in that same western area of Auckland.  Regina Ho gives this church pastoral oversight and is unique in that it is one of the few Cantonese speaking churches in the west.

One other important area of ministry we are involved with is Prison Chaplaincy. Rev Heremaia (Bop) Mutu is an Ordained Pastor with the C&MANZ and currently serves as Chaplain in one of the largest Prisons in New Zealand.  Bop often jokes that, unlike our other Pastors, he is actively trying to decrease his congregation rather than grow it.

For more information on each of these churches and works please refer to the CMANZ Churches Page

Each year we have a Missions Convention and invite prominent missionaries from around the world to come to New Zealand and spend a month with us ministering in all our local churches.   This is combined with our Annual Council and makes a really exciting time which climaxes with a Mission Call.

Each year we endeavour to send out a Short Term Mission Team usually to Asia.  This usually also connects with whomever the previous Missions Speaker in New Zealand was in an endeavor continue the link for at least that year.

The C&MA of New Zealand welcomes you to contact us.  Please use the link below to contact me and to ask any questions you may feel relevant

Shalom
